Murcia Region
The Murcia region is in an area of Spain known as the Costa Calida (the warm coast). It is a very unspoilt region, located in South-Eastern Spain (see location map). Getting to the area is easy as there are direct flights from all over the UK into Murcia San Javier Airport. In addition, a new International airport is opening in the region in 2009, which will bring more flights into the area. The climate is one of the best in Spain, with over 300 days of sunshine a year and very low rainfall.
The Costa Calida has some of the most wide ranging beaches in Spain, with the beaches around the Mar Menor Sea as well as the miles of Mediterranean beaches. The Mar Menor Sea is well known for its therapeutic properties and much of the Mediterranean coastline is beautifully unspoilt.
For those people wanting to get a taste of real Spain, the towns and cities in the region are a destination in themselves. The historic architecture, including remains going back to Roman times, is of great importance and the Roman amphitheatre at Cartagena is currently being renovated and will shortly be open to the public. Like most of Spain, Murcia is very child friendly and most beaches have play areas. There are lots of activities on offer for both adults and children, including scuba diving, water parks and walking.
