New Dual Carriageway Opens in Murcia

Friday, April 18th, 2008

The new dual carriageway connecting Alhama de Murcia with Cartagena has just opened. The road has been in construction for over a year and it will significantly reduce journey times in the region.  The old road meandered through the rural villages and countryside, while the new road bypasses Fuente Alamo and the villages to create a direct route across this area of the Costa Calida. Large new roundabouts and flyovers have been built along the whole stretch of road with slip roads connecting to local areas. The road has partly been built to help serve the new private regional airport at Corvera, which will be opening in a couple of years time.

The road is just part of a large development of infrastructure in the Murcia region. In the last year, a brand new motorway opened, connecting Cartagena with Almeria and also a dual carriageway from Totana to Mazarron. Another dual carriagway in the same area is well underway and is due to open later this year.

Condado de Alhama resort will benefit most from the road that has just opened, as it will make access to the Roman town of Cartagena quicker and also speed up access to the 6 other Polaris World resorts in Murcia.  It will also provide a fast connection to Murcia city centre, where last year a large new shopping centre opened.

New AP7 Motorway connects Cartagena with Almeria

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

A brand new motorway has just opened connecting Cartagena to Almeria. This is the first of three new roads which will dramatically change the connections to the Costa Calida area. The other two roads are still under construction, due to open this year. The main resort to benefit from these new connections is Condado de Alhama, although all resorts will now have better access to Almeria and Granada, including the skiing areas of the Sierra Nevada. The new section of the AP7 motorway leads from Cartagena, past Mazarron and down to Almeria.
